My Drama Blog Intro

Image
The Many  Faces of Drama                  This class has taught me so many valuable strategies and theories that will continue to shape my comfort level with drama and how I approach teaching it in my future classroom. Coming into this year I was very nervous about teaching drama because it is a subject that requires the educator to break out of their comfort zones. Through this class I was able to gain so much helpful experience on how to structure a lesson in drama and how can be accommodated to fit the different subject areas. Going forward I am more excited about teaching drama and feel mach more confident. I really enjoyed these six weeks of drama and I am sad that they have reached an end. Hope our lives in drama will continue to intersect because I had a blast being given the creative freedom to be silly and just be me. This blog is a representation of all the great memories and learning experiences I have had in this course....

Reflection 5: Creative Process

Image
Theory: Creative Process What is the Theory?             The creative process is outlined in the Arts curriculum as a multi step process designed to get students to consider and experiment with new ideas. The process is complex because it encourages them to think critically and plan things out in addition to evaluating their own work. These are steps associated with the critical analysis process but both theories are interwoven. In addition to the critical component the creative process also gets students involved in higher level thinking such as imagination and experimentation. The creative process is essential to the Arts because without it students would not develop a passion to be creative and to have fun in exploring their creative side. It is the passion to be creative where student’s untapped potential can begin to shine. The Creative Process What is the Value of this Theory?     ...

Reflection 4: Flashback/Flash Forward

Image
Strategy: Flashback/Flash Forward What is the Strategy?             This strategy focuses on us having to act out a moment in time from the past and the future to tell a story. This activity can be done in forward and reverse and is done in tableaux style. There is no speaking in this activity and there is no major movement. Every scene is a moment in time so no movement except for the transition from one scene to the next. When we did the flashback activity the scene we were acting out was someone getting bullied and the events that led up to it. Each of the members in our group was playing either students in the class or the teacher. I was playing the child getting bullied and showing the emotions the kid was experiencing as a result of the bullying. This activity forced me to be a bit more serious and consider what would I be feeling if I was being bullied. My Flashback Group: Bullying Scene What is the Value of ...

Reflection 3: News Report

Image
Strategy: News Reporting What is the Strategy?             This strategy that we used was designed to get us to take on the role of characters involved in news broadcast. We were put into groups of about four to five and each of us was given a character to portray. The situation that the news report focused on was someone going to a party and all this crazy stuff happened. For our group the roles that were assigned were Greg, his mom, a bystander and I was the news reporter who was interviewing them. We had a few minutes to brainstorm questions and potential answers to the questions based on our character. This activity allowed me to be creative and think of funny questions and experiment with a little character acting. My News Report Group in Action  What is the Value of this Strategy?             This strategy holds personal value to me because it was...

Reflection 2: Critical Analysis Process

Image
Theo ry: Critical Analysis Process What is the Theory?             The Critical Analysis Process is outlined in the Arts curriculum as a five-part process outlining the different components associated with effective critical thinking in the Arts. Critical analysis involves students being able to thoughtfully engage with and respond to different artistic works or ideas. The five components of this process are initial reaction, description, analysis, expression of an informed point of view and cultural context. Students will develop many important skills through this process including responding knowledgably to work, making connections to their own experiences, developing informed point of view and demonstrating an appreciation of the arts. These skills will allow students backgrounds and experiences shine through and will allow for a climate where discussion and feedback is encouraged and valued. Critical Analysis Proce...

Reflection 1: Maslow Hierarchy of Needs

Image
Theory: Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs What is the Theory?             Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a organized ranking system focusing on what the fundamental needs for a child are in their development. The hierarchy forms the shape of a pyramid with the needs at the bottom representing the base of the pyramid. In order for students to be successful and fulfill their needs at the top of the pyramid they need to be provided with the fundamentals at the bottom of the pyramid. Once they are provided with their basic needs at the bottom they need to be placed in an environment where they can move beyond the physical needs and also fulfill their emotional, mental and spiritual needs. What are the Bases of the Pyramid?             The bottom base of the pyramid are the physical needs including water, sleep food and air. The second base from the bottom is physical safe...
